Arabic calligraphy is a world-renowned art form and writing script that can be seen on buildings and art all across the Middle East. The Arabic language is a Semitic one from the same family as Hebrew and Aramaic. It's alphabet has 28 letters, although only 18 are distinct in shape. Distinctions between letters that are similar are created by placing various combinations of dots above or below some of these shapes. Typically, it takes years of practice to become a master calligrapher, especially if you want to master all six types of Arabic calligraphy script. The six scripts are known as: Farsi, Naskh, Kufi, Deewani, Req'aa and Thuluth.

      Extend the lines of the simple Arabic script you have to create curves or geometrical shapes. Many calligraphic phrases are written to form inside circles, squares or other polygons.
