How to Make a Butterfly Yo-Yo
Yo-yos give hours of enjoyment to children and come in many shapes and sizes. The butterfly yo-yo is a popular shape because it gives the appearance of a flying butterfly when someone is playing with it. Butterfly yo-yos also make pretty ornaments tied to a Christmas tree. Making a butterfly yo-yo at home is easy and a creative craft that children will enjoy.
Things You'll Need
- Square fabric charm pack
- Plastic butterfly yo-yo maker
- Scissors
- Sewing needles
- Strong quilting thread
- Needle threader
- Strong string
Instructions
-
-
1
Take one square of fabric from the fabric square charm pack.
-
2
Press the fabric square on the yo-yo maker. Cut the fabric around the shape of the yo-yo maker leaving at least 1 cm of fabric around the yo-yo maker.
-
-
3
Use the needle threader to thread the needle and keep a long piece of thread to go around the fabric without a break.
-
4
Poke the needle along the holes in the yo-yo maker and follow the pattern.
-
5
Remove the fabric once you complete the stitching around all the holes. Pull the thread to make the yo-yo and finish by knotting the thread.
-
6
Sew the middle of the yo-yo from the front to the back and leave enough thread for hanging or playing. You can cut the thread and sew a strong piece of string for playing or hanging if you want a stronger yo-yo.
-
7
Tie a loop at the end of the thread or string tied to the butterfly yo-yo to insert a finger or to hang on a nail or Christmas tree.
