How to Do Two Curl Ponytails

Two ponytails are casual enough for a day at the beach or outside.

Two ponytails don't need to take you back to elementary school days. With a little curl in them, they can look grown-up and appropriate for a casual day. To avoid the childlike look, make your two ponytails as low as possible. That way, you'll get your hair out of your face, while still looking serious and a bit mysterious. The more messier the ponytails are, the better, and don't worry about loose face-framing strands which should come loose from the ponytails after time.

Things You'll Need

• Comb or brush
• Pomade, gel or texturizer
• Hair elastics
• Curling iron or rollers
• Hair spray

Instructions

1. Brush or comb hair to remove any tangles.

2. Apply a styling product such as pomade, gel, mousse or texturizer evenly through your hair.

3. Make a part right down the middle, or on the side, using a rat-tail comb. The part should run from your forehead, over your scalp and all the way down to your neck. It should be an even line, but if you're making messy ponytails, don't worry about the part being straight. Separate the hair into two sections, a left and a right section. Add volume at the crown by backcombing the parted sections with a comb, that way, hair won't be flat.

4. Secure each section of hair with an elastic. These two ponytails should be at the same height. If making low ponytails, secure them with elastics behind or right under each ear.

5. Wrap the first section of hair around a curling iron. If you want to make just one big curl out of the entire section of hair, wrap it around a wide barrel iron such as a 1-inch iron or larger. If you want to curl each strand of the ponytail and end up with tight curls or waves, wrap each strand around a curling iron 1 inch or smaller.

   If you prefer to use rollers, wrap each section of hair around a large roller, or around a few smaller rollers for smaller curls, and remove after about an hour. Blow dry for a few minutes to speed up the drying time.

6. Repeat for second section of hair. Ponytails should look even. Tousle the ponytail ends with your hands for a messy look.

7. Pull out of a few face framing strands in the front, if desired. Spritz ponytails with hair spray for extra hold.
