How to Install Sprays in CS 1.6

"CounterStrike" version 1.6, commonly abbreviated as "CS 1.6," is the final version of the game for the older "HalfLife" engine. Despite its age, players still engage in online competitive matches against other players. "Sprays" are one of the game's popular features. These are images that you can select from within the "Options" menu. Players can "spray" these images onto any surface in the game at the touch of a button. They can be used to gloat over a fallen opponent, or even as a clever distraction.

Instructions

    • 1

Find an image you wish to use as a spray in the game. Save this image to your hard drive.

    • 2

Convert your image to a .WAD file decal. CounterStrike 1.6 uses decal files for sprays, so your new spray image must be in this format. Certain programs can convert images to decal .WAD files, such as "Decal Converter," "Wally" and "EasyWad."

    • 3

Save the new .WAD file somewhere you can easily find it on your computer. Save the file under the name "tempdecal" to match the decal file in your "CounterStrike" folder.

    • 4

Locate and right-click the new .WAD file. Click "Properties," then click the box for "Read-only." Click "Apply." You change the file to "Read-only" so that CounterStrike cannot automatically overwrite the file while you browse through the "Options" menu within the game.

    • 5

Navigate to the "Steam" folder. This is normally found in your "Program Files" folder. Double-click the "SteamApps" folder.

    • 6

Double-click the folder named as your registered Steam account email address, then double-click the "Counter-Strike" folder, followed by the "Cstrike" folder.

    • 7

Copy your new .WAD file and paste it into the "Cstrike" folder. Overwrite the old file when prompted to do so. This changes your default installed spray to your new spray.
