How to Decorate for a Venetian Masked Ball

Save

The roots of a Venetian masked ball, or masquerade, trace back to 13th century Venice, Italy. Masks are a staple and defining feature of a masquerade, and you can incorporate them into the decor. The decorations should reflect old Venetian extravagance and opulence, while helping party guests get into character and feel as though you have transported them into a classic Venetian masquerade of centuries ago.

Things You'll Need

  • Candelabra
  • Ribbons
  • Fake flowered vines
  • Table linens
  • Red velvet table runner
  • Red velvet chair sashes
  • Tassels
  • Masks
  • Large masks
  • Tall, thin vases
  • Feathers
  • Set a candelabra on each table as a centerpiece. Tie ribbons and wind fake flowered vines around the candelabra base and the table.

  • Place a decorative mask at each place setting. This will invite guests to join in on the tradition of wearing masks to a Venetian ball.

  • Hang large gold masks on the walls to highlight the party theme.

  • Dress up the tables in lush linens, such as a white table cloth accented with a rich, red velvet table runner.

  • Tie chairs with red velvet sashes to accent the table runners. Add tassels to the ends of the sashes to add a detailed touch to the look.

  • Fill tall, thin vases, at least two feet high, with long feathers that cascade and bow out of the top of the vase. Place the vases on the floor beside the dance floor, stage, buffet table or any other venue feature you want to highlight.
