How to Get Rid of Line Shadow on Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word treats lines inserted in a document just like any other shapes. You can format a line's width, color, border, and shadow, among other aspects. If the page zoom is set too low or another object on the page is set in front of the line, it may be somewhat difficult to select, but once you've selected the line, removing its shadow won't present a problem.

  • Click on the "Zoom" button in the "View" tab and set the zoom level to at least 150 percent, if the line is too thin to select easily.

  • Right-click on any object, such as a text box or image, that partially obscures the line. Choose "Order" and then "Send to Back" to bring the shadowed line forward relative to the obscuring object.

  • Click once on the line.

  • Click on the "Format" tab.

  • Click the "Shadow Effects" drop-down and choose "No Shadow".
