How to Disable Screen-Locked iPhone 3Gs

The screen lock feature for the iPhone automatically locks the phone after a period of inactivity, which protects your phone in the event that it is lost or stolen. Although the screen lock, when used with a passcode, protects your information, it can be more of a nuisance than a benefit if you need to constantly check your phone. Temporarily turn off the screen lock feature on your iPhone through the phone's general settings, which also control the phone's passcode lock.

  • Push the iPhone's "Home" button, and slide the screen's unlock bar to the right. Enter your phone's passcode if prompted.

  • Touch "Settings" on the phone's screen, and touch "General" to access the iPhone's general settings.

  • Tap the Auto-Lock tab, and tap "Never" to disable the phone's auto-lock feature. Tap the "General" tab to return to the previous menu.

  • Tap the "Passcode Lock" tab, and enter the passcode to access the "Passcode Lock" settings.

  • Touch "Turn Passcode Off" and enter the passcode to disable the phone's lock tool. Once disabled, the iPhone will not prompt you for the passcode when the device's screen is unlocked.
