Some MP3 players marketed by Creative and some cell phones that have MP3 player capabilities allow users to obtain more space for their files by saving their media onto an SD card rather than the device's internal memory. Some devices require that you format the SD card by inserting it into the device first. The device should automatically format it and download the necessary file management folders onto the card.

Step 1

Insert your device's SD card into the SD card slot on your computer. With many new computer systems, the SD card slot is located on the side or in the back of the system.

Step 2

Click the "Start" button on your computer's desktop, and select the "My Computer" folder.

Step 3

Double-click on the drive that represents the SD card. You should see folders on your SD card such as Music, Video or Photos.

Step 4

Find the folder that matches the type of files you want to transfer to your SD card. For example, if you are transferring audio files, find the Music or MP3 folder and drag your songs into that folder.

Step 5

Insert the SD card back into your device and access the SD card in your device's menu to access those files.
