How to Turn Off DivX Updates

Save

DivX is a free high-definition video player available for Windows and Mac computers. In addition to basic playback, DivX will convert videos to a format it can use and play streaming videos from the Internet. Although DivX is a great video player, it does have some drawbacks: its Updater runs in the background constantly, taking up system resources. You can turn it off in the DivX Control Panel, which you cannot open from the basic DivX player, but you also need to make sure the Updater will not come on automatically at startup.

Control Panel

  • Click "Start," "All Programs," "DivX Plus," "Codec Settings" to open the DivX Control Panel.

  • Click the "Updates" option.

  • Select "Never" from the "Check for Updates Interval" list box.

  • Click the "Close" button.

System Configuration

  • Click the "Start" button to show the Start menu.

  • Type "msconfig" in the "Search Programs and Files" field to open the System Configuration dialog.

  • Click the "Startup" tab.

  • Locate "DivX Updater" in the list.

  • Clear the check box next to it.

  • Restart your system.
