How to Find and Replace Space Strings in Excel 2007


Spaces are text strings that can appear in the values of Microsoft Excel 2007 cells. Frequently, these spaces can crop up unexpectedly, particularly when copying data from external sources. To remove or replace these space strings, you can use Excel's Find and Replace feature. This feature allows you to search an entire spreadsheet for occurrences of particular text and optionally replace them.

  • Open your Excel spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel 2007.

  • Hold the "Ctrl" key and press "H" to open the "Find and Replace" window.

  • Click the "Find what" field and press the space bar to enter a space in the field.

  • Enter the replacement text in the "Replace with" field. This is the text that appears in place of the spaces. If you prefer to simply remove the spaces, then leave this field blank.

  • Click "Replace all" to automatically replace all spaces in your spreadsheet. Alternatively, click "Find next" to locate each occurrence, one at a time, and click "Replace" to selective replace the spaces.

  • Click "Close" to close the Find and Replace window.
