How to Make a Microsoft Word Table Fit Onto One Page

Save

A table that overruns a single page is not only difficult to work with but can be less than elegant too. When a table is just a little too large for a single page, you can try two main strategies to fit it onto one page. If the table holds too much information and takes up two or more pages, you may want to remove rows or columns or split the table into several smaller tables to present your data.

Adjust Margins

  • Open the Word document with the table you want to adjust.

  • Click "Page Layout" on the Ribbon and select "Margins."

  • Click the "Narrow" option or one of the other predefined margin sizes.

  • Click "Custom Margins" if one of the predefined margin sizes does not meet your needs. Enter the margin size in the top, bottom, left and right boxes. Click "OK."

Shrink Table

  • Open the Word document with the table you want to adjust.

  • Hover your mouse over the bottom right corner of the table until you see a white box and a two-sided diagonal arrow appear.

  • Click and drag the diagonal arrow up if the table is too long or to the left if the table is too wide. If you do this slowly enough, you should see the table jump to one page.
