Copy links to keep track of your files.

InDesign is a professional layout program from Adobe for creating print and web pages using text and images. If your project is large, an InDesign file may contain dozens or even hundreds of photos, pages and fonts. The Links Panel helps keep your images organized. Each image used in InDesign has a corresponding link to the image file on your drive. By copying these links, you can pass the path of the linked image along to team members working on the project so they know where specific art is kept. Copying links can also be helpful for scripting and data merging.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on "Window" then select "Links" from Adobe InDesign CS5.

    • 2

Click the down arrow in the top-right corner of the Links Panel to open the menu.

    • 3

Select "Copy Info" and then "Copy Full Path" or "Copy Platform Style Path." The full path is great for letting team members know where a file is located, whereas the platform path is more useful for scripting or for specifying image fields in a data merge.

The path can now be pasted into an email and sent to other designers.
