Spray a penetrating catalyst between the cap and the main flashlight body. Lay the flashlight on a rag horizontally and soak the area where the cap screws onto the main flashlight body. The penetrating catalyst helps loosen corroded and stuck threads by dissolving dirt and oils. Let the penetrating catalyst soak into the threads for 20 minutes.

Wrap the rag around the flashlight cap to protect it from the jaws of the pliers.

Adjust the slip-joint pliers so they fit completely around the cap. Hold the flashlight firmly with your dominant hand. Turn the cap counterclockwise to loosen it. Spray more penetrating catalyst on the threads and work the cap loose with the pliers if it does not break free the first time.
