How to Block YTMND

Protect your children's Web surfing by blocking inappropriate sites.

"YTMND" stands for "You The Man Now, Dog", a humor-oriented website that often features content that is not suitable for young viewers. If you want to prevent access to the site, use the "Hosts" file located within the Windows operating system files. This file is often used to store information on where to find a note on the computer network, and it can also be edited to block as many sites as needed.

Things You'll Need

• Notepad
• Web browser

Instructions

1. Click the "Start" menu icon found along the bottom left-hand corner of your desktop. Select "All Programs" from the Start menu and click on the "Command Prompt" link. You can also type "cmd" into the search bar located at the bottom of the "Start" menu.

2. Wait for the "Command Prompt" window to appear on your screen. Type "notepad C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts" into the window and press "Enter." The command will make the "Hosts" file available for editing in Notepad.

3. Locate the line "127.0.0.1 localhost" in the "Hosts" file. Add the following under

   "127.0.0.1 localhost":

   "127.0.0.1 ytmnd.com"

   "127.0.0.1 www.ytmnd.com"

   These lines will cause any attempt to access the website to be redirected to "localhost" instead, resulting in a connection error shown on the Web browser. Save the file and close Notepad.

4. Open your Web browser and make an attempt to access the website. If the file was edited successfully, your browser will not be able to connect to the website. To undo the changes simply open the "Hosts" file in Notepad, remove the lines and save the file once more.
