How to Drive a Bobcat S175

The Bobcat S175 is a skid-steer loader that is used for industrial, commercial, farming and residential jobs. The Bobcat S175 is built small to maximize its maneuvering capabilities. It is used for a multitude of jobs, from loading dirt and other materials to grading roads. The loader comes with foot pedals that control the movement of the bucket and hand levers that control the forward and reverse movements of the machine. Always familiarize yourself with all of the driving components before operating or driving a Bobcat S175.

Instructions

    • 1

      Walk around the Bobcat S175 to ensure that all of the tires are inflated. Check the engine oil and the radiator coolant before operating the machine.

      Inspect the driving path of the loader to ensure that there is no debris or any other hazards in the way. Crawl into the cab of the loader, pull the seat belt strap across your body and lock it in place.

      Inspect all of the gauges, foot pedals and hand levers to familiarize yourself with their actions. Reach above your head and turn the ignition key until the engine cranks. Allow the engine to warm up for about one minute.

      Raise the bucket off of the ground by pressing down on the back portion of the left-side foot pedal. Raise the bucket until it is high enough off of the ground to drive the machine.

      Release the emergency brake handle and push the throttle lever forward to increase the idle speed of the engine. The throttle lever is on the console located on the right side of the seat.

      Push both hand levers forward at the same time to drive the Bobcat S175 in a forward direction. To scoop dirt, lower the bucket to the ground by pressing down on the front portion of the left-side foot pedal with your left foot. Use the front and back portions of the right-side foot pedal to adjust the rotation of the bucket.

      Drive the loader forward with the bucket down until the bucket is full of dirt. Drive the loader to a safe dumping area. Turn the machine as needed by pushing in one hand lever while pulling back on the other hand lever at the same time. To turn the machine left, pull back on the left lever and push the right lever forward at the same time. To turn the machine right, pull the right lever back and push the left lever forward at the same time.

      Raise the bucket up high by pressing down on the back portion of the left foot pedal. Dump the dirt out of the bucket by pressing down on the front portion of the right foot pedal. Lower the bucket until it is about 3 feet from the ground. Drive the machine in reverse by pulling back on both hand levers at the same time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Drive the Bobcat S175 loader slow at first until you get a good feel of how all of the levers and foot pedals work.

  • To prevent accidents, be aware of your surroundings and make sure that nothing is in the driving path of the loader.
