How Do I Enable UPnP on a D-Link DIR-655 Router?

Enabling Universal Plug and Play--or UPnP--on your D-Link DIR-655 router is a feature many people use to play online games on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. UPnP can be used to help change your NAT type to "Open" and allow you to easily connect to your online friends and online games.

  • Click the "Start" button on your desktop task bar.

  • Type "Cmd" into the search bar at the bottom of the Start menu. Click on the "Cmd" program to load it up.

  • Type "ipconfig" into the bar at the bottom of the program. Make a note of your default gateway.

  • Open up your Internet browser. Type your default gateway into the address bar, and press "Enter." Enter the username and password for your D-Link DIR-655 router.

  • Click on the "Advanced" tab at the top of the window, and then select "Advanced Network" from the side menu.

  • Tick the box next to "Enable UPnP." Click on the "Save Changes" button to complete the process.
