How to Ping on McAfee
A program that transmits a series of packets through a network or Internet connection -- in order to receive a response from another computer -- is a ping attempt. The ping attempt will not function with untrusted networks and works best when you utilize McAfee's Total Protection 2011 Firewall in Trusted mode. However, Trusted mode is not necessary when setting a ping address in the Firewall's Custom settings mode, if you use a static IP address -- an address that does not change until you alter it. Trusted mode and Custom settings mode allow you unrestricted network access, where ping attempts go unchecked. If you have Windows Firewall enabled, it will block incoming network traffic and your pinging attempts will fail.
