How to Remove Selections in GIMP

Web designers use the term "remove selection" to refer to two different activities when using GIMP software. One activity is to delete the portion of the image that is currently selected. This is a useful method for isolating one part of an image while permanently removing an unwanted portion. The second activity is to remove the crawling line that forms the boundary of the selection. To "remove selection" in this sense is the only way to deselect an object without also undoing any actions you performed after selecting it.
