Adobe Illustrator offers a range of styles that allow you to alter the look of your design, but because these effects aren't objects they can't be edited or deleted in the same manner as other shapes and groups. Once you've applied a drop shadow effect to an object, group or layer, you can edit it only via the "Appearance" panel. From there you can easily remove or change the drop shadow effect.
Click the "Window" menu and click "Appearance" if the "Appearance" panel isn't already open on your screen.
Click the object, group or layer to which the drop shadow is applied.
Find "Drop Shadow" listed in the "Appearance" panel.
Click and drag the "Drop Shadow" appearance to the trash icon in the lower right corner of the "Appearance" panel.
Tips & Warnings
- To change your drop shadow without deleting it and starting over, double-click on the "Drop Shadow" in the "Appearance" panel to access the settings for the effect. If you have a large group or a whole layer with a drop shadow applied, and you want to remove the drop shadow from only one or two items, use the layers palette to move those items out of the group or layer. Once you move the objects, they'll no longer have the appearance assigned to the group or layer.
