Painting zombie toys is far safer than the real thing!

Zombies, as troops for the popular Vampire Counts army for Warhammer Fantasy Battles, often find their way onto a tabletop battlefield. Painting rotting flesh, dangling bones and festering wounds might not be everyone's idea of a good time, but it is necessary to have a fully painted Vampire Counts force.

Instructions

  1. Skin

    • 1

Undercoat the zombie miniature with white spray primer.

    • 2

Paint the zombie's skin with Rotting Flesh paint.

    • 3

Create a shading wash of one part Badab Black, one part Devlan Mud, 10 parts Thraka Green and 10 parts water.

    • 4

Cover the skin with this wash. It will run into cracks and crevices, creating an impression of shadows and depth.

    Boils

    • 5

Paint any boils with Sunburst Yellow.

    • 6

Paint the area around the boils with a brownish wash, such as Ogryn Flesh, Gryphonne Sepia or Devlan Mud.

    • 7

While the wash is still wet, wipe it off the tops of the boils to allow the yellow underneath to show through. Be sure to leave the wash on the flesh around the boils to make it look infected.

    Exposed Bone

    • 8

Paint any exposed bone with Snakebite Leather.

    • 9

Paint over the Snakebite Leather with Bleached Bone. Small amounts of brown will show through, giving the impression of rotting bone.

    • 10

Highlight the raised edges of the bone with a small amount of Skull White.
