Ammonia, commonly found in yard and garden fertilizers, breaks down into nitrogen, which is a vital substance to the health of a lawn. Nitrogen-rich fertilizers often have other chemicals mixed in that are not always the most environmentally friendly. Using common household items, you can make your own nitrogen-rich fertilizer.   • Watering can
  • Water
  • Beer
  • Epsom salt
  • Ammonia
  • Stir stick

Instructions

      Pour 6 cups of water into the watering can.

      Pour 3 cups of beer into the watering can. The beer helps to feed the lawn. You can substitute the beer for a dark cola.

      Pour 3 cups of Epsom salt into the watering can.

      Pour 2 cups of household ammonia into the watering can. Use ammonia without additional cleaners and chemicals.

      Stir the contents in the watering can together with a stir stick or spoon. This makes 14 cups of fluid, 2 cups less than a gallon.

      Water your lawn with the watering can. Evenly distribute the solution over the lawn.

      Reapply every four to six weeks.
