How to Make a VCR Picture Crystal Clear
A VCR may not deliver as crisp a picture as DVD player, but you can still make the image as clear as possible by upgrading your video cable and cleaning the tape heads. A VCR produces 300 lines of resolution, which is less than half the image resolution of a DVD. To get the most from a VCR's analog technology, you can make simple improvements such as hooking up an S-video cable in place of the old RCA cable that's likely plugged into the back of your machine.
Instructions
-
-
1
Disconnect the current RCA-type video plug from the output jack on your VCR and input jack on the TV.
-
2
Plug in an S-video cable from the VCR's matching output to an S-video jack on the TV. This cable delivers superior picture quality to an RCA-type connection.
-
-
3
Insert the cleaning cassette in the VCR and press "Play" to start the cleaning cycle, which typically takes less than one minute. Eject the cassette.
-
4
Load a pre-recorded tape in the VCR and press "Play" if it does not start automatically. Turn on the TV.
-
5
Press the up or down arrows labeled "tracking" to align the VCR heads with the tape travelling through the component. This gives you the sharpest possible picture and sound quality from the VCR.
