Lessons on How to Draw Anime
Learn to draw anime with a few lessons. Anime is a form of animation that takes its look and feel from Japanese comics, which are also known as manga. Drawing anime requires an ability to draw in the manga style. Manga characters usually have cartoony faces and actions but realistic figures and clothing. The first steps to drawing anime are mastering the manga figure and movements. Mastering this, along with some other elements of the manga style and some animation techniques, are all it takes to learn to draw anime.

1
Draw a figure using the anime style. Start by drawing the trademark pinched oval head used in anime. Draw a cross through the center of the oval to place the features. Draw an upturned simple nose and large, rounded anime eyes. Add hair, but keep it simple and pointed. Depending on the type of anime character you are drawing, construct a body that is simple. Anime character bodies range from baby types with oversized heads, to hyper-muscular ones. They are almost always constructed from simple forms, however. Use ovals for the rib cage and pelvis, cylinders for the arms and legs and spheres for the hands. Add details such as clothing to the character.

Lay tracing paper over your drawing, or place the drawing on a light box and put another sheet of regular paper over it. Draw the character again on the new paper, slightly altering one part of the body slightly to show movement. Repeat this process on more sheets of paper, until the character has undergone a full range of movement with whatever aspect that is moving.

Use an animation disk if you have one to complete the process in step 2 with more control. The animation of the character will be smoother since the animation disk has registration pegs that keep all the drawings from moving.
