How to Remove Business Card Template Backgrounds in Word

Pounding the pavement to find a job, recruit business or sell something usually requires leaving a way for your new contacts to reach you. Instead of spending money on generic business cards, make your own using Microsoft Word. Word comes with a slew of business card templates you can quickly customize to make your own. Word's business card templates may include specialty themes and designs, but all of their backgrounds are removable to turn the focus directly onto your name and information.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Word. Click the "File" tab. Click "New."

    • 2

Double-click the "Business Cards" button. Double-click the "Print business cards" file folder.

    • 3

Scroll through the business card design options. All backgrounds are removable, so double-click a card setup template that's most appealing to your requirements. Within a few moments, the card or sheet of cards opens in a new Word window.

    • 4

Click the "Page Layout" tab at the top of the screen. Click the "Page Color" button. Click "No Color." This will remove business card backgrounds of solid color, but not necessarily all the background on the template.

    • 5

Click onto the individual business card, the first one on the page. Double-click the business card box until the background design is selected; you may have to click a couple of times to ensure the background and not the text or design elements are selected. Press the "Delete" key to remove the background. Repeat on the rest of the business cards on the page.

    • 6

Replace the placeholder business card template text with your own name, title, phone number, email address and other information.

    • 7

Click the "File" tab, and click "Save As." Type a name for the business card document and click the "Save" button.

Tips & Warnings

  • If at any time you accidentally delete the entire business card when trying to remove just the background, click the "Undo" button, which is the left-pointing curvy arrow in the top-left corner of the Word workspace. This will revert the document back to the last iteration before you made the deletion.
