How to Check the Status of Energy Assistance in Wisconsin
All people who live in Wisconsin have to struggle through sub-zero conditions during the wintertime. So for those families that are in need of assistance, having access to energy assistance from the government is indispensable. This assistance can be anything from a partial subsidy of your energy bill to home improvements that cut your energy bill.

How To Check The Status of Energy Assistance in Wisconsin
-
1
Know the income guidelines in Wisconsin. You are eligible for energy assistance from Wisconsin if your income is below the established guidelines (see Resources).
-
2
Know which programs to apply for. The Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program administers a federal program, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Public Benefits Energy Assistance Program. These programs will help you obtain fuel, help you with conservation and carry out emergency furnace repair and replacement.

3
Start the application process. You will need to supply proof of income so you will need to bring tax returns and pay stubs to the appointment to apply for energy assistance. In addition, when you call to set the appointment to apply for energy assistance (see Resources), ask if there is any other documentation required.
-
4
Check the status of your application. The Federal Weatherization program operates on a first-come, first-served basis and because federal funds are used by Wisconsin when those funds are exhausted there are no more funds for the rest of the year. Therefore you should apply early (the program runs from October to May) and check the status of your application by calling the Wisconsin Division of Energy Services (866) HEATWIS (432-8947).
