How to Make a Halloween Surprise Pop-Up Card
Pop-up cards give an added surprise to a standard greeting card. You can make a spooky Halloween pop-up greeting card inexpensively in just a few steps. Alternatively, customize the cards to make Halloween party invitations. Have children create the cards and use their imaginations to decorate them to their liking. They can create several handmade cards and give them out to their classmates for their school Halloween party.

1
Cut a piece of black construction paper with craft scissors to 7 inches by 10 inches. Fold the paper in half lengthwise to make a 5-inch by 7-inch greeting card.
-
2
Cut four notches along the fold of the card to create two sets of flaps. Cut the notches about 2 inches deep. Measuring from the top down, cut notches at 2 inches, 2.5 inches, 4.5 inches and 5 inches.

-
3
Fold the flaps to create a crease mark, and then unfold them.
-
4
Add text to the inside of the card. Hand write "Happy Halloween" or another Halloween phrase using a pen or marker. Alternatively, use letter stickers or rubber stamps to add text.
-
5
Draw two 2-inch by 3-inch wide ghosts on the white construction paper using a pencil and then cut them out. Cut out round eyes or make black dots with a marker.
-
6
Turn the card so that the fold is at the top. Open the card halfway and pull the flaps up to form an "L" shape. These flaps will be the pop-up area within the card.
-
7
Glue the ghosts to the front edge of the pop-up flaps with rubber cement. Make sure the ghosts sit about 1/4 inch up from the bottom surface of the card. Close the card over.
-
8
Cut a piece of orange construction paper to the same size as the card and glue the paper over the front to create a contrasting cover in a Halloween color. Avoid placing glue in the flap area.
-
9
Decorate the front of the card with text or stickers. Alternatively, cut two more ghosts and glue them to the cover with a "Boo" greeting.
