All too often, life can pass you by, leaving you somewhere miserable. It's easy to fall into a slump and feel hopeless when you are unhappy with your job, your personal relationships or other aspects of your life.
There are a few different techniques you can use to snap yourself out of the funk you're in and get yourself back on your life path and find your way back to happiness.

Draw a circle of any size onto a piece of paper. Draw lines inside the circle to divide it up to make a pie chart consisting of eight "pieces." Label each "piece" with a different area of your life -- money, career, fun and creativity, personal growth, friends and family, physical environment (office/home), significant other and health. Evaluate the eight areas of your life by rating each one on a scale of 0 to 10. Rating an area with a 0 means you have made little to no progress in this area while a 10 ratings means you feel completely fulfilled.

Look at any areas on the chart that have a 6 rating or below and choose the one that you want to change the most. Ask yourself why this particular area is so important to you, what you ultimately want to achieve and then devise a plan of action to improve this area of your life. For example, if you rated the "significant other" area with a 3, you may realize that you haven't been putting yourself out there in the dating world. Your ultimate goal may be to get married and so your plan of action may be to start going out to singles clubs once or twice a week or to create a profile on an online dating site to meet other people. After your life begins to improve in that area, start to focus your attention in another low-scoring area.

Switch up your daily routine and do something different. Try a new restaurant or take a different route on the way to and from work. Being spontaneous, a bit adventurous and making small changes in your daily life can improve your mood and may give you the confidence you need to make larger changes in your life down the road.

Reflect on what used to make you happy and what your past aspirations were. Perhaps you always had a desire to take a vacation to Spain. If so, do something to work toward that goal like taking an introductory Spanish night course at a local community college or saving $50 from each paycheck until you have enough to go on the vacation. Knowing that you are actively taking steps toward completing a goal can make you feel better about your current place in life and can motivate you to pursue other goals.

Tips & Warnings
Cut the stressors in your life. Even the littlest things can build up and cause grief and stress in your life. Cutting out just one or two things that stress you out can lighten your spirit and give you a renewed perspective.
