How to Get Creases Out of Satin

How to Get Creases Out of Satin thumbnail
Never apply an iron directly to satin as it can ruin it.

Satin has been a staple of the fashion and textile industry for centuries and is one of the most commonly used fabrics for wedding gowns, lingerie, upholstery and draperies. Its silky smooth texture is very luxurious and has a slight sheen to it. Due to the delicate nature of satin, you cannot just press a hot iron to it and remove wrinkles. If you're in a pinch and can't take your garment to the dry cleaners, use the steam of a hot shower to get the creases out of satin. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the garment with a spray bottle filled with water until it is quite damp. Set the garment flat onto an ironing board and cover the largest wrinkles with a thin towel.

    • 2

Set your iron to its lowest heat setting and allow it to heat up. Gently press the iron atop the towel to release the garment's worst wrinkles.

    • 3

Place the garment on a clothes hanger and hang it on the towel bar, or on the outside of the closed shower curtain.

    • 4

Turn on the shower to its hottest setting and close the door to the bathroom, allowing a large quantity of steam to enter the room. The steam will release any additional wrinkles in the silk.
