How to Move Stuff With GIMP

Gimp, the Gnu Image Manipulation Program, is an open source image program for the Linux, Mac and Windows operating systems. It can be used to create new images or to retouch and restore photos. When you are creating or editing an image, you may want to move objects around. The "Move" tool allows you to use your mouse and drag the objects to the preferred location. You can select a portion of an image and move it, or create layers in the image and move each layer independently.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open the Gimp Image Editor.

    • 2

      Click on the "File" menu.

    • 3

Click on the "New" or "Open" option to create a new image or open an existing image. If you create a new image, add an object to the image.

    • 4

Click on the "Move" icon in the "Tools" dialog window or press the "M" key on your keyboard. The "Move" icon looks like a four-way directional arrow.

    • 5

Click on the object that you want to move in the image.

    • 6

Hold the left mouse button down and drag the object to the preferred location in the image.
