How to Draw a Celtic Love Knot
Celtic knots first appeared in Celtic culture in 450 AD, according to Ancient Symbols.com. The knots were used to symbolize many different things and were created with one line that repeatedly traces an endless path. One of the best-known Celtic knots is the love knot, which symbolizes the love between two people and often was given when couples would marry, similar to how couples exchange rings today. To draw the knot, you will need patience, graph paper and most likely several attempts.

1
Draw dots on alternating vertical lines on a piece of graph paper with a pencil. You are creating diamond shapes with the dots, starting in the uppermost corner and working your way down.
-
2
Draw two straight lines, using a pencil, between the dots in the top left-hand side of the paper. The lines should be top left-side and bottom of the diamond shape.
-
-
3
Draw a curved line at the top of the diamond, making sure your lines stay inside the dots. This will create the first strand of your Celtic knot.
-
4
Draw a curved line on the lower portion of the diamond, creating a second strand of the Celtic knot.
-
5
Draw a top and bottom line in the second diamond on your graph paper. You will want to draw lines on the bottom left and top right side of the diamond. This will create the third strand of the Celtic knot.
-
6
Draw the a curve around the top line that you just drew on the second diamond. This curved line should continue the second strand that you created earlier.
-
7
Draw a curve from the bottom line to create a fourth strand.
-
8
Draw additional diamonds and curved lines to continue each strand and create your Celtic knot.
