Lubrication applied to inner legs helps prevents chafing.

When your skin rubs together -- or when there is friction between your clothes and your skin -- chafing may occur. Chafing is a condition where the skin is irritated and raw due to friction and moisture buildup. Your thighs often fall victim to chafing when walking or jogging. At the worst, the condition results in blisters and open sores. To get rid of chafing thighs, there are various simple treatments you can apply.

Instructions

    • 1

Lose weight. Obese and overweight people are more prone to chafe because of the excess skin that rubs together, and the lack of air circulation. Weight loss can reduce the friction, because it reduces the size of your thighs, therefore creating space between them that allows air to circulate. Reduce your caloric intake. Eat a healthy diet and take on a regular exercise regimen to help promote weight loss.

    • 2

Wear pants or shorts that are long enough, so they cover your thighs and keep the skin from rubbing together. Purchase shorts or pants that are well-fitted -- nothing too tight or too loose. Avoid polyester and nylon fabrics, because these retain moisture on your skin. Choose cotton and rayon fabrics or sweat resistant wicking fabric to avoid moisture buildup.

    • 3

Lubricate your thighs, so they slide past each other instead of rubbing each other raw. Apply a layer of petroleum jelly on your inner thighs or purchase commercial products such as Body Glide or Sportslick which are manufactured to help prevent chafing.

    • 4

Drink water throughout the day, so you can perspire freely. Lack of hydration causes sweat to form salt crystals on your skin which may worsen chafing of the thighs.

    • 5

Apply cornstarch or talcum powder on the insides of your thighs. The powder absorbs moisture and allows the thighs to smoothly pass each other when walking.
