How to Draw a Guy With a Guitar
Drawing a guy with a guitar can be a challenge for a beginning artist. The key to capturing a rock star or any other guitar player on paper is to focus on the drawing in three distinct sections, allowing you to develop your subject so that each section is relative to the others. With a little practice, draw a guitar-playing rocker for your portfolio.

1
Draw your guitar player's legs first. You'll only draw the legs up to about mid-thigh. The crotch area up to just above the waist will be covered by the guitar, so you will not need to worry about drawing these sections. Draw one leg with a slight bend at the knee, as a guitar player might stand when playing a guitar. If you want to draw the legs straight, set the feet slightly apart. To draw the feet if your guitar player is in this position, draw two curved arches at the base of the legs and a single horizontal line beneath each arch. This will give you the shoes from a front angle perspective.

2
Draw the guitar in next, beginning the body of the guitar where the legs end. Draw a guitar body at about waist level on your figure. Draw the body with the shape of an eight (minus the lines that cross one another in the actual number), then draw two lines from the body of the guitar and extending to about where you will bring the guitar player's hand when his arm is slightly outstretched. This distance depends upon how big your drawing is going to be. Make adjustments later, if necessary. At the end of the guitar, draw the guitar head (a triangle or square shape) and draw three small circles on either side for the tuning keys. Draw six lines (one starting from each tuning key and extending to the body of your guitar).

Draw volume knobs on your guitar, if it is electric. If it is an acoustic guitar, draw a circle in the center of the body. Don't forget to add a shaded rectangle across where your six strings end. This is the bridge of the guitar.

4
Draw four fingers on the neck of the guitar, then draw the arm. Begin with the wrist curving slightly where the fingers are on the guitar, then bring the arm up to where you will begin the shoulders. Draw the other arm (closest to the body of the guitar) hanging over the guitar of the body and the fingers pressed together hovering over the center of the guitar's body. This will give the appearance of the guitar player holding a pick.

5
Draw the shoulders of your guitar player. Angle the shoulder lines into the neck of your guitar player, then draw an oval shape for the head and add some hair. If you're making a rock star, use long strokes of your pencil to create long, wavy hair. Overlap the lines until you've given your player a full head of hair. Pencil in two almond-shaped eyes, a curved line for a nose, and a line that curves up at each end for a smiling mouth.
