How to Make Zebra Designs on Toes
Bright nail polish designs on your fingers and toes exhibit your personality. The first synthetic nail polishes were introduced in Paris in the 1920s, according to art historian Angus Trumble, who wrote "The Finger: A Handbook." Coloring nails were controversial early on. Conservatives believed brightly colored nails were undignified and doctors thought painting nails were self-mutilation. Today nail polishes and other nail decorations account for a large proportion of the cosmetics industry. Show your personal style with simple do it yourself zebra designs on your toes. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Wet a cotton ball with nail polish remover. Remove any leftover nail polish on your toes.
-
2
Paint nail polish on your toes. Start from the bottom of the toe, which is near the skin, and paint towards the top of the toenail. Choose a color that will be the base of the design. Wait for a few minutes for the first coat to dry before adding another coat of the same color.

3
Paint a stripe with a stripe nail polish from one side of the toenail to about two-thirds across. A stripe nail polish is a varnish that has a thinner brush applicator. They are sold in most beauty supply stores. If you cannot find one, dip a fine artist's brush into a nail polish bottle. The color you choose for the stripes can be black or any other bright color.
-
4
Add a stripe from the opposite side of the toenail to about two-thirds across. Be sure the stripes are varying thickness so they look random. This will look more like zebra stripes. Also, be sure each stripe is not equal distance from another strips.
-
5
Paint more stripes from opposing sides until the entire toe is complete. You can form a stripe or two in the center of the toe also. Repeat the stripes on all the toes and allow them to dry completely.
-
6
Seal the zebra designs with a top coat nail polish. Paint it on as you would regular nail polish. Allow it to dry.
