Footwear of all kinds can develop unpleasant odors.

Wearing boots for an extended period of time will cause your feet sweating. This sweat will quickly turn your boots into a smelly mess that lasts long after you have taken off the boots. The sweat will cause the inside of the boots to become damp which will increase the chance of fungus growth in the footwear. Furthermore, the unpleasant odor can transfer from the inside of the boot to socks and feet. Fortunately, you can remove the odors with common and inexpensive household items. Things You'll Need

  • Newspapers
  • Stockings
  • Baking soda
  • Dryer sheets
  • Anti-bacterial soap
  • White vinegar
  • Absorbent socks

Instructions

    • 1

      Crumble several newspapers into balls. Stuff the smelly boots with the crumbled newspapers and let sit overnight. The newspapers will absorb the odors. Remove the newspapers and fill the boots with fresh crumbled balls of newspapers if the odor remains.

      Fill two stockings -- also known as knee-highs or pantyhose -- with baking soda and tie each stocking in a knot. Place each baking soda-filled stocking in each one of the boots. Set the boots in an out-of-the-way location and let sit for 24 hours.

      Place a fresh dryer sheet inside each boot and let sit overnight. The dryer sheet will help eliminate the offensive odor and replace it with a fresh scent.

      Allow the shoes to air out and dry completely after each use. Sprinkle baking soda inside the boots to help remove odors.

      Prevent footwear odor by washing your feet with anti-bacterial soap daily. This will help kill bacteria on your feet thatcau se odor. Furthermore, soak your feet every night in white vinegar for five minutes to kill any fungus growing on your feet.

      Wear absorbent socks that will soak up sweat instead of letting it drip into the boot. The socks will help prevent boot odor.
