How to Know if the QuickTime Plug-in for Firefox is Working

Apple's QuickTime video playing software includes a Firefox plug-in. The Firefox plug-in plays QuickTime content on Web pages, including Apple's events and movie trailers Web pages. You can check whether it's working by visiting a page with an embedded QuickTime video. It's working fine if the video appears. If a video doesn't appear, you can try updating QuickTime to a newer version and verifying the plug-in is enabled in Mozilla Firefox.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Apple Events page on apple.com in Mozilla Firefox.

    • 2

Click any video on the Apple Events page to open it.

    • 3

Wait for the video to play. The QuickTime plug-in for Firefox is working properly if the video plays. If a "Get QuickTime" link appears and no video starts playing, the plug-in isn't working properly.

Tips & Warnings

  • QuickTime might not work properly if you have an old version installed. Download and install the new version from apple.com, or use Apple Software Update to update it. You can open Apple Software Update by clicking "Start," clicking "All Programs" and clicking "Apple Software Update."

  • You can see if the QuickTime plug-in is installed and enabled by clicking the "Firefox" menu button, clicking "Add-ons" in the menu and clicking the "Plugins" item at the left side of the Add-ons window page that appears. Look for the QuickTime plug-in in the list of installed plug-ins. If it's disabled, you can enable it by clicking its name and clicking the "Enable" button.
