Use GIMP to replace this background.

Photography can be tricky. You might take a photo that looks just fine, until you take a closer look later and realize you would like a different background for the people or objects in the scene. While many people use a pricey commercial graphics program to switch out the background for another one they want, you can also use the free GIMP application to accomplish this change.

Instructions

    • 1

Load the image with the background you want to remove onto your computer, along with an image containing the background you actually want. They need to be the same size.

    • 2

Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open" to start the GIMP application. In the dialog, open the image you want to use as the new background.

    • 3

Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog, open the image in which you want to replace the background.

    • 4

Select "Edit" from the menu and choose "Copy." Go to the first document, select "Edit" from the menu and choose "Paste."

    • 5

Select the "Path" tool from the toolbar and use it to draw a selection of the background in the top layer. Click "Delete" on your keyboard to remove it. Save your work.
