Instructions

    • 1

Draw a large oval tilted approximately 30 degrees to the left. Draw the top of the oval in a rounded fashion and make the bottom come together in a point. The shape of the oval will be similar to an upside down raindrop. This shape represents the torso of the cartoon bird.

    • 2

Draw a circle resting on the top of the oval and positioned slightly to the left. The diameter of the circle should be approximately 1/2 the width of the widest point of the oval. This shape represents the head of the cartoon bird.

    • 3

Draw a second oval inside of the first oval with a similarly rounded top and pointed bottom like an upside down raindrop. The oval should be approximately 3/4 the size of the original oval and should also be tilted approximately 30 degrees to the left. Erase the top edge of the second oval from the middle of the rounded point down approximately half way to the bottom point. This line represents the wing of the bird cartoon.

    • 4

Draw a wedge shape starting from the center of the torso and pointing out past the oval where it comes to a point. The wedge should resemble the shape of a slice of pie, with the point of the pie being situated at the center of the torso and the crust pointing out past the outer edge of the torso oval. Erase the lines of the wedge that are inside the torso oval. The remaining lines represent the tail of the cartoon bird.

    • 5

Draw two lines coming down from the center, bottom edge of the torso oval. These lines represent the legs of the cartoon bird. Draw three smaller lines pointing out from the bottom of each of the legs toward the front of the cartoon bird. Draw one smaller line pointing out from the bottom of each of the legs toward the back of the cartoon bird. These lines represent the feet of the cartoon bird.

    • 6

Draw a triangular beak coming out from the head of the bird and pointing forward. Bird beaks come in many shapes and sizes and the design of an original-looking beak can be an excellent way to give your cartoon bird character.

    • 7

Draw one small circular eye on the head of the cartoon bird and complete the steps necessary for bringing a simple sketched bird to life. Embellish your cartoon bird with feathers, clothing, accessories and other elements giving it a truly one-of-a-kind appearance.

Tips & Warnings

  • Create a flipbook:

  • Stack multiple small pieces of paper on top of one another and staple them together along one edge. Draw your cartoon bird on each piece of paper changing the drawing slightly from page to page. Flip the pages of the book quickly and watch as your cartoon bird appears to move and come to life right before your eyes.
