How to Find an ACA Meeting
If you are an adult child of an alcoholic, rest assured that you are not alone. Many adults struggle with the effects and repercussions of having an alcoholic parent, but not everyone knows that the Adult Children of Alcoholics World Service Organization exists to help people in your situation. The ACA is an anonymous twelve-step program for adult men and women who battle with the impacts of alcoholic moms or dads, or both. This is an international program, so look for meetings in your area.

1
Decide whether you want to attend an ACA meeting in person, or via the Internet or telephone. Online meetings and telephone meetings are available if you cannot make a live meeting, or if there are no meetings going on in your area.
-
2
Visit the ACA website and select the link to the world meeting list. You will be asked to select your country and type in your zip code. A new screen will appear with a list of live meetings in your area. Meeting information is also presented, such as the location, date and time of the meeting.

3
Understand what the meeting keys mean. Next to the meeting that pops up, you might notice a symbol next to it. Read the key at the bottom of the page that tells you what each symbol means, which will help you find the right meeting to attend.
-
4
Start an ACA meeting of your own, if no meetings are available in your area. The ACA publishes guidelines for starting new meetings. You will need to order the ACA approved literature and follow the guidelines for an effective meeting, such as selecting a meeting location and welcoming newcomers.
