How to Draw Cartoon Boats
Cartoon boats can come in many shapes and sizes, from the speed boat to the canoe. One of the most common and archetypal boats is the sailboat. A sailboat has the same rounded base as most boats but also contains one or two masts and sails. If the boat has a large enough sail, the mast becomes invisible, making it easier to draw. The simplest boat possible consists of a rectangular base and two triangle sails.

1
Draw a long, rounded line that looks like a half moon with a convex curve facing downwards. Complete the base of the boat by drawing a straight line from one end of the half moon to the other end.
-
2
Point to the placement of the mast, usually about 1/3 of the way down from the end of the boat. Draw a very light line here, for reference. The line should be perpendicular to the edge of the boat and should be very tall.

3
Place your pencil on the tip of the mast and draw a rounded line from this point to the closest end of the boat. Extend this line on the other side so that it goes slightly beyond the edge of the mast.
-
4
Draw a concave line from the high edge of the sail to the top edge of the boat. This completes the first sail.
-
5
Add a second sail just behind the first sail. The second sail should be rectangular. About two thirds of the sail should be visible behind the first sail.
-
6
Draw several small circles on the boat, parallel to the top edge of the boat. There should be three to six circles slightly below the top edge, spaced evenly.
-
7
Add water to the picture. Draw a wavy line just below the circles on the boat. Add small wavy lines, slightly thicker than one of the circles, around the entire boat. This creates the appearance of water.
-
8
Draw the horizon line, if desired. Make the line slightly wavy so that it looks like a moving ocean.
