How to Restart the Battery on an iPod

Apple launched the first iPod music player October 2001.

When your iPod device freezes or will not respond, a hard battery restart is necessary. A hard battery restart shuts the device off and restarts it immediately, resolving frozen screen issues that cannot be solved by syncing the device with your computer. There are a variety of iPod models and all of them have a set key combination that hard restarts the device.

1. 

   The iPod Nano is "the best-selling music player ever," says Apple.

   Press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button and the "Volume Down" button at the same time.

2. Release the buttons when the device shuts off then turns back on and displays the Apple logo.

3. Repeat the process if the device does not restart and display the Apple logo.

How to Restart iPods Without Click Wheels

1. Slide the "Hold" switch to the on position.

2. Slide the "Hold" switch to the off position.

3. Press the "Play/Pause" button and the "Menu" button at the same time. Hold them down until the device shuts down and restarts.

How to Restart iPods With Click Wheels

1. Slide the "Hold" button to the on position.

2. Slide the "Hold" button to the off position.

3. Press the "Menu" button and the "Center" button at the same time and hold them down until the device restarts.

2. Slide the on-screen bar to the right when the message reading "Slide to power off" is displayed.

   Slide the iPod Shuffle's switch to the "OFF" setting.

2. Wait for several seconds.
