How to Import a Video to an iPhone

If you want to put a video on your iPhone, you must sync it via iTunes, just as you would with music or photos. You can configure your syncing settings when your iPhone is plugged into your computer. To sync a video, it must be stored in iTunes, so you must add the video to your iTunes library and put it in the right format, if necessary.

Add the Video to iTunes

  • Double-click the video file on your hard drive or right-click and select "Open With," then choose "iTunes." This opens the file in iTunes and adds it to your iTunes library.

  • Click on the video in iTunes; then click "Advanced" at the top of the screen.

  • Select "Create iPod or iPhone Version." This converts the video file to a format compatible with your iPhone. If you downloaded the video from iTunes or transferred it from a program such as iMovie or QuickTime, you do not need to convert it.

Configure Sync Settings

  • Connect your iPhone to your computer. Click on its name under "Devices" in the left panel of the iTunes window.

  • Click the "Movies" tab. Check the box next to "Sync Movies," and then check the boxes next to the videos you want to sync.

  • Click the "Music" tab. Check the box next to "Sync Music Videos" if you want to add any music videos to your iPhone.

  • Click the "TV Shows" tab if there are any TV videos you want to add. Check the box next to "Sync TV Shows," and then check the box next to the videos you want on your phone.

  • Click "Apply" in the lower-right corner.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also download videos from iTunes directly on your iPhone via the iTunes Store app.
