How to Lower the Ping in "Battlefield 2"
"Battlefield 2" is a first-person shooter for the personal computer. The series is known for its competitive and extensive multi-player modes, but the modes can be hard to enjoy if you are experiencing bad lag and latency problems. When your computer registers a high ping, which is how long it takes your computer to communicate with the game's server, the players around you can seem to get stuck as they are walking. This makes it hard to be successful in the game, so you will want to do everything you can to lower your ping.

1
Move your router closer to your computer. If you use a wireless router, walls and other objects can create interference with the device's signal. Moving the router closer can reduce interference and lower your ping. If you do not have the ability to move the router, add a wireless repeater, which acts as a relay for your wireless router.

2
Use the equipment of a single vendor for your Internet hardware. Manufacturers design their hardware to work with other pieces of their hardware, so two Netgear or Motorola products, for example, will always be more efficient than a combination of the two. Having a router, relay and, if possible, networking card developed by the same manufacturer can dramatically lower your ping.

3
Update the firmware of your router. Router manufacturers, regardless of whether the router is wireless or wired, often produce updates in the form of firmware that increase the efficiency of the device. This can help reduce your ping when playing "Battlefield 2" online.

4
Subscribe to a proxy server service. There are dozens of proxy server services, all of which charge varying rates. The purpose of these servers are to reduce the time it takes to communicate with the game server. These servers don't necessarily dramatically reduce ping and latency issues, but they can increase the efficiency of the communication process between your computer and the "Battlefield 2" game servers.

5
Host your own "Battlefield 2" matches. The users with the lowest ping are typically the ones who are closest to where the game is being hosted.
