How to Draw Cartoon Clowns
Clowns can easily be drawn in cartoon form. The makeup on a clown gives the face a cartoonish appearance to begin with. Since clown sketches rely less on facial details and more on the shapes drawn for the makeup, they make the perfect subject matter for beginning artists.

1
Draw an oval for your clown's head, then draw a tuft of hair on either side of the oval for hair. Draw the hair tufts sticking up and shaped like a flame, which gives your clown's hair a wild appearance. Add some wavy lines inside the tufts of hair for texture.

2
Draw two circles for your clowns eyes, then add make-up lines around the eyes. The make-up lines can be any design you choose. They can be triangles, circles or a teardrop shape. Draw a big circle centered on the face for a traditional clown nose.

3
Draw a mouth on your clown. A curved line will work for the mouth itself. The ends should be curved upward for a smile. Draw a design outside the line for the mouth and let the design fully encircle the mouth. This can be as simple as following the line of the original mouth or you can add points to the design at each corner. This is the mouth make-up design. If you want to give your clown a funny appearance, draw his tongue hanging from the corner of his mouth.

Color your clown using colored pencils or markers. Use bright colors to bring out the cartoon effect. Make the mouth bright red and the make-up around the eyes bright blue. Color the nose red or yellow.
