How to Set Up My Site's Email With Gmail

Google's Gmail is a free, web-based email system that saves emails like in-person conversations between people. Gmail allows you to archive rather than delete your conversations, and it is completely searchable, just as if you used Google to search the Internet. If you have your own domain, import your domain-based email to your Google account to send and receive domain-based email using the Gmail interface.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Gear" icon at the top-right corner of the Gmail screen. Click the "Accounts and Import" tab.

    • 2

Scroll down to the "Send Mail As" tab and click "Send mail from Another Address." Enter the name that you want to send email as, your email address, the reply-to address where you want replies to be sent, then click "Next Step." Check your email on your domain-based server and click the link within the message Gmail sends you.

Configure Gmail to receive copies of emails from your domain server. Scroll down to the "Check Mail Using POP3" pane and click "Add POP3 Email Account." Enter your email address and click "Next Step." Enter your username and password, your incoming mail server -- the default one select is usually the one your account uses -- and click "Add Account."

Tips & Warnings

  • In order to send an email using your domain-based account, select the email address from the drop-down menu that appears next to "From" when you create a new message. To reply to messages you receive at your email address using that email address, click the "Change" button next to your email address before you send the reply email, which makes the same drop-down menu appear.
