Customize the ringer on your HP/Palm Pre smartphone.

HP/Palm Pre smartphones feature 8 gigabytes of internal memory storage, which is perfect for storing documents, pictures and music on your device. Music stored on the HP/Palm Pre internal memory can also be used as ringers or "ringtones" for incoming calls. To transfer an audio file, copy the file in the same way as a USB flash drive. After that, you can assign it as your ringtone with only a few changes to the HP/Palm Pre settings.

Instructions

  1. Transferring Ringer Audio to an HP/Palm Pre

    • 1

Disconnect the micro USB to standard USB cable from your HP/Palm Pre charger. If you do not have the default charger for your device, you can use any micro USB to standard USB cable.

    • 2

Plug the standard USB end of the cable to an available USB port on your computer. Connect the micro USB end of the cable to the charger port on the HP/Palm Pre. A prompt will appear on the touchscreen.

    • 3

Tap the "USB Drive" button on the touchscreen. Your phone's internal memory will appear as a removable hard drive labeled "Palm Pre" in Windows Explorer or Finder for Mac users.

    • 4

Copy the audio file you want to use as a ringer to the "Music" folder on the "Palm Pre" drive on your computer.

    • 5

Right-click the icon for the "Palm Pre" drive and select "Eject." Disconnect the micro USB to standard USB cable.

    Setting the Ringer

    • 6

Press the "Power" button on the HP/Palm Pre and then drag the lock icon on the touchscreen upward to unlock the phone.

    • 7

Tap the "Launcher" icon in the bottom corner of the touchscreen.

    • 8

Find the icon labeled "Sounds and Ringtones" and tap it on the touchscreen.

    • 9

Tap the "Ringtone" selection and a list of pre-installed ringtones will appear.

    • 10

Tap the "Music" button in the bottom corner of the touchscreen. A list of all the audio files in the "Music" folder will appear.

    • 11

Scroll through the files on the touchscreen and tap the audio file you want to set as your ringtone. You will be directed back to the first page of ringtones, but the audio file you selected will appear at the bottom of the list.

    • 12

Tap the audio file in the list of ringtones. A green check mark will appear to the right of the file name. You can now close the "Sounds and Ringtones" tab and your ringer will be set to the audio file you have chosen.
