1
Select fabric to embellish with paint embroidery. Washable natural-fiber and natural-blend fabrics such as cotton and polyester work best.
-
2
Wash and dry the fabric to prepare it for paint embroidery. Do not use fabric softener on the clothing, as it prevents fabric paint from adhering correctly.
-
-
3
Prepare the fabric paint according to the manufacturer's instructions. Some manufacturers may advise you to shake the product well before applying it. Others may instruct you to store the fabric paint upside down to discourage air bubbles before applying it to fabric.
-
4
Sketch the embroidery detailing onto the fabric with a disappearing ink pen.
-
5
Use the prepared fabric paint to trace over the outline created with the disappearing ink. For a raised surface, angle the tip of the fabric paint bottle. To create flat embroidery, apply the fabric paint with the tip in a straight vertical position.
-
6
Allow the fabric paint to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions. Most recommend that the project dry for 24 to 48 hours.
-
7
Fill the water bottle with water. Spritz the fabric with water to remove excess traces of the disappearing ink.
-
8
Do not wash the fabric for at least 72 hours after completion of the project.
