How to Decorate French Toast

Get creative with French toast to reinvent this classic breakfast item.

Whether you like your French toast with syrup and powdered sugar, or with blueberry compote and whipped cream, it's typically served the same way; either served whole or cut in half diagonally to form triangles. This standard is fine for adults, but kids can easily get bored. Surprise the kids on special occasions with creatively shaped French toast and decorate it with edible garnishes that complete the look.

Things You'll Need

• White or whole wheat bread
• Prepared French toast batter
• Green sprinkles
• Sausage link
• Strawberry jelly
• Grape Jelly
• Mint jelly
• Raspberry jelly
• Oval-shaped cookie cutter
• Heart-shaped cookie cutter

Instructions

Christmas Tree French Toast

1. Cook French toast as your normally would.

2. Cut the bread diagonally to make triangles.

3. Arrange three triangles in a row vertically so that they just overlap each other to form a Christmas tree shape.

4. Place a cooked sausage underneath the three triangles of French toast to act as the stump.

5. Sprinkle small green sprinkles over the three French toast triangles to make it look like a tree.

6. Garnish with a rosemary sprig underneath the sausage to look like grass.

Easter Egg French Taost

1. Cut out oval shapes from the bread using an oval-shaped cookie cutter.

2. Dip the cut-out bread in your prepared batter and cook the French toast as normal.

3. Place strawberry, grape and mint jelly in individual microwave-safe bowls. Heat for no more than 30 seconds, just until they are warmed.

4. Pour the jellies into individual pastry bags with a tip.

5. Decorate the French toast to look like decorated Easter eggs by squeezing the jellies onto the French toast, making different patterns and designs on each one.

Valentine's Day French Toast

1. Cut heart shapes out of the bread using a heart-shaped cookie cutter.

2. Dip the heart-shaped bread in the batter and cook as usual.

3. Warm up strawberry or raspberry jelly in the microwave for about 30 seconds.

4. Spread the warm jelly over the French toast hearts.

5. Dust lightly with powdered sugar and line the heart with whipped cream.
