How to Tie a Stick at the End of a Rope

To tie a stick at the end of a rope, use a noose knot. Although the name makes the noose knot sound mean and dangerous, it is useful for securing objects that are under tension off the rope. The noose knot handles weight and is untied with relative ease.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap one end of the rope into a circular coil. Make another wrap and overlap it over the first coil like a pretzel.

    • 2

Wrap the end of the rope under the pretzel and then back up and over. Pull the end of the rope through the rear coil of the pretzel and parallel to the main line. This tightens the knot. Pull the loop left by the knot out to enlarge its diameter so the stick fits through it.

    • 3

Place the loop wherever you need it on the stick and pull back on the main line while holding the loop. This tightens the loop up against the stick.

    • 4

Push down on the knot to flatten out the wraps and then pull back on the main line once more to secure the knot and rope to the stick.
