There will be spice racks, shelving units, display cases and a variety of kitchen items that will match perfectly while overhauling the look dramatically.

3. Build a kitchen island for the ultimate modern touch. No contemporary kitchen is complete without an island. You can purchase one from Ikea or even build your own. The island can be used as a place to eat meals, a place to prepare food or just as an extra surface on which to put kitchen appliances.

4. Update your kitchen appliances either by purchasing new ones, hiding them behind curtains or by painting them using appliance paint. The refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and even toaster can be painted over using appliance paint. This can create an instant makeover to any kitchen.

5. Move things around in the kitchen. Decide where you want the refrigerator, sink and cooker and fit everything else in around them.
