How to Hook a Subwoofer to M-Audio BX5A

The M-Audio Studiophile BX5a monitor system is designed for recording and studio artists to receive audio feedback on sound bites, song sections or entire songs. The two-monitor setup works best in small rooms, with both speakers pointed toward a central point, usually occupied by the listener. These monitors play high frequencies through their tweeters and low subwoofer frequencies through their Kevlar-reinforced main speaker cones. They are compatible with microphones, subwoofers and any other XLR or RCA source.

Things You'll Need

  • Four XLR or 1/4 inch cables

Instructions

    • 1

Plug one cable for each monitor into the stereo monitor output of your main audio console.

    • 2

Plug the opposite ends of each cable into either XLR or 1/4 inch input jacks on the back of the subwoofer depending on the type of cable you have. The XLR cable is three pronged, the 1/4 inch jack is a single prong.

    • 3

Plug a second set of XLR or 1/4 inch cables into the back of the subwoofer, this time into the output jacks.

    • 4

Plug the opposite ends of the output cables into the "line-level" inputs on the back of the BX5a.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not attempt to hook the speaker output of the monitor amplifier to the input of the subwoofer because that could damage the equipment.
